BY THE EARLY 1860'S, SKIRTS BECAME VERY POPULAR. AFTER 1862 THE silhouette CHANGED SHAPE, RATHER THAN BEING "BELL SHAPED" IT WAS FLATTER IN THE FRONT AND MORE PRONOUNCED FROM BEHIND. these skirts and dresses included different patterns and materials such as stripes and lace. they would have low necklines and would most of the time go down to the floor, not showing any leg.
